Balashi Brewery Beer Pairings Round 3
Balashi Brewery Beer Pairings Round 3

Our third installment of our popular local beer pairings features Aruba’s very own craft beer, Magic Mango.  This smooth and balanced tropical beer is ripe for magical and unexpected pairings with some of the island’s favorite dishes.  Let your imagination and palate explore some of Aruba’s tastiest menus!

First stop:  Poké Ono

Celebrated Aruban chef, Urvin Croes, is the master behind Infini restaurant, a highly rated chef’s table studio, and Poké Ono, the island’s first fast-casual modern Asian-cuisine bistro,  featuring poke bowls, sushi, and steamed bao.  Now with two locations—Azure Condominiums at Eagle Beach and downtown at Renaissance Marketplace—this local favorite has a menu bursting with fresh, colorful flavors.  Although many of the dishes pair great with Magic Mango, we highlighted a poke bowl and a bao:

Elvis Presley Bao & Magic Mango

A pairing the King would love! Po-Ké Ono’s Elvis Presley Bao sings with a medley of flavors, hitting those salty, sweet, and spicy notes.  Fried spam, sweet teriyaki, and plantain are zinged with a little spicy Kewpie. Wash it all down with the fruity and malty flavors of Magic Mango and it’s a hit!

The Golden Dragon Roll & Magic Mango

Po-Ké Ono’s most popular sushi roll is the Golden Dragon, a roll that tempts the palate with dynamic flavor combinations and textures from creamy to crispy.  With the addition of mango to the spicy salmon tartar, crispy onion, and garlic Kewpie mayo, we love giving the tropical fruit a repeat performance on the palate with a pairing of Magic Mango.

Second stop: Neighba

Located in the heart of San Nicolas and the art district, the island urban vibes and al fresco setting ooze local charm.  The restaurant is praised for innovative twists on regional Caribbean cuisine, with a menu that evolves every few months with new items.  We opted for a Magic Mango pairing with two items that will debut on the menu starting this October.

Loaded Blue Shrimps Johnnycakes & Magic Mango

San Nicolas is the home to Johnnycakes, brought here by migrants from British Caribbean islands that came to work at the refinery.  Stop in at Neighba to sample the chef’s inventive Johnnycake specials that change every few months.  We paired the tropical flavors of Magic Mango with the Loaded Blue Shrimps version with spicy shrimp, blue cheese, honey and herbs…so much Caribbean deliciousness!

Saltfish Soul Tacos & Magic Mango

Tacos are quintessential street food cuisine.  Stop in at Neighba for a delightful taco dish, island style: Saltfish Soul Tacos with black-eyed peas.  The curried saltfish and sweet potatoes are a soulful pair to the mango essence of Magic Mango.

Third stop: Scott’s Brats

Beachin’ it soon?  This rustic, barefoot beach shack has been cranking out Wisconsin-style brats, dogs, sausages, and Italian beef sandwiches, as well as tacos for nearly a decade.  Located beachside at Playa Linda Resort, enjoy yummy beach food and ice-cold Magic Mango in a casual beach setting.

The Classic Brat & Magic Mango

Brats and beer—an iconic pair!  Scott’s Brats brings brats to the beach scene on Palm Beach. We’re adding some island flair, pairing a savory brat with all the fixins’ with the tropical notes of Aruba’s craft beer, Magic Mango…and take $1 off your brat when you pair it with a Magic Mango!

 Mahi Tacos & Magic Mango

Tacos are beach fare it its finest. Wrap your hands around a tasty mahi taco with mango salsa from Scott’s Brats beachside shack.  Pair it with the refreshing island vibes of Magic Mango and it truly is the prefect beach-munch session!
