Mechanical Technician

The Bottling Company Mechanical Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery used in bottling operations and utilities. This role requires expertise in mechanical systems, troubleshooting techniques, and adherence to safety regulations. The technician ensures that all equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. Additional responsibilities include implementing preventive maintenance programs, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.

Specific Responsibilities:

Machinery Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and repair of bottling equipment/machinery and utilities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure minimal disruption to production.
  • Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned downtime.

 

Technical Analysis:

  • Interpret technical documents, schematics, and work orders to assess maintenance needs.
  • Plan repair and installation processes to optimize efficiency and resource use.

 

Installation & Testing:

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical components and systems.
  • Ensure all installations meet operational and safety standards.
  • Assist in the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs.

 

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose mechanical faults and identify corrective actions.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to pinpoint and resolve operational inefficiencies.

 

Safety & Compliance:

  • Assess machinery and work procedures to identify safety risks and recommend improvements.
  • Enforce compliance with industry safety standards and company policies.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections and corrective measures taken.

 

Cost & Resource Management:

  • Provide cost estimates for materials and repairs.
  • Upkeep of spare parts and ensure timely availability of resources.

 

Equipment Inspection & Documentation:

  • Conduct routine inspections of bottling machinery and mechanical components.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and report findings to management.

 

Team Collaboration & Training:

  • Work closely with other technicians and production staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to junior technicians as needed.

 

Operational Efficiency & Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance equipment performance and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure maintenance activities align with production goals.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining quality, efficiency, and productivity in bottling operations.
  • Assist in the production line if necessary during emergencies or as instructed by supervisor/Chief Engineer.

 

This role is integral to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of bottling plant operations. The Bottling Company Mechanical Technician plays a crucial part in ensuring the seamless functionality of machinery, upholding safety standards, and driving continuous improvement within the maintenance department.

Integrated Management Systems Responsibilities:

Policy Adherence:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in strict accordance with Integrated Management Systems (IMS) policies and procedures.
  • Provide constructive feedback on IMS policies to support continuous improvement and ensure that all team members understand and comply with these guidelines.

 

HACCP Principles:

  • Understand and apply the principles of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) to identify, evaluate, and control hazards that could compromise product safety.
  • Train team members on HACCP principles and ensure that all maintenance procedures are aligned with these standards to maintain product integrity and safety.

 

Environmental Practices:

  • Ensure all maintenance and operational practices adhere to environmental regulations and standards, minimizing the environmental impact of plant activities.
  • Promote sustainable practices within the maintenance team, such as reducing waste, recycling materials, and conserving energy.
  • Stay informed about environmental laws and guidelines, and implement necessary changes to comply with updates or new regulations.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Actively participate in IMS reviews and improvement initiatives, suggesting practical changes to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team, encouraging members to identify and propose improvements to IMS policies and practices.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and any incidents related to IMS compliance.
  • Report any non-conformities or potential risks to superiors promptly, ensuring timely resolution and documentation of corrective actions.

General Responsibilities:

  • Meeting Participation: Attend all required meetings.

  • Hygienic Practices: Work in a hygienic manner at all times.
  • Safety Equipment: Wear the required safety equipment when necessary.
  • Reporting: Immediately report any environmental, safety, quality, or food safety irregularities to superiors. Report (near) accidents and unsafe situations/actions immediately.
  • Cross-Training: Participate actively in the cross-training program as per the Cross Training Chart.

Continued General Responsibilities:

  • Confidentiality: Handle all information confidentially.
  • Interdepartmental Communication: Maintain good working relationships and communication with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Procedure Compliance: Comply with the procedures and instructions in the Employee Handbook and the IMS manual of TBC/BNB.
  • ISO Norms: Adhere to procedures and requirements according to ISO norms.
  • Guidelines Adherence: Follow guidelines and procedures concerning environment, safety, quality, and food safety.
  • Compliance: Is responsible to comply with the procedures and instructions as stipulated in among others the Employee Handbook, the IMS manual of TBC/BNB.
  • Equipment Use: Use equipment, machines, transport means, tools, and materials correctly and safely.
  • Personal Protection: Use personal protection materials as regulated by TBC/BNB or as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Audit Assessment: Monthly execution of job site inspections on jobs/locations he is responsible for; guarding and performing actions resulting thereof.
  • Administration: Supplies periodically administrative data to the HR Coordinator and to the administration on time.

Job Profile:

  • Level of Education: MTS/EPI – Mechanical/ Electrical.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a similar position.
